Method

  1. Line a Dutch oven with two layers of heavy-duty foil.
  2. Whisk one cake mix with one can of soda just until combined, without beating. Pour into the Dutch oven.
  3. Spread the cherry pie filling evenly over the batter.
  4. Whisk the second cake mix with the remaining soda and pour over the cherries.
  5. Cook with 6–8 coals below and 14–16 above for 45–60 minutes, until the cake is baked through.

Variations

  • Serve with ice cream or whipped cream.
